Senior Vice-Commander of Illinois

Today is one of the most important days in the almost 100-year history of Evanston American Legion Post 42.  Today our Past Post 42 Commander, Mike Carder, was elected to the high office of Commander for the Department of Illinois.  For the first time in the near 100-year history of our Post, one of our own could rise to the office of Commander of the Department of Illinois, comprising nearly 82,000 members.

After ratification on the floor of the Department convention in Springfield, IL this coming July, Mike will serve as Department Commander for the Legion year 2018 (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019).  Mike will be serving in his 28th year as a Legion and Post 42 member.  He is a Vietnam War Veteran and a Panama Veteran.  He served in the Army and Army Reserve for 30 years.

He has served as Post 42 Commander, 7th District Commander, 1st Division Commander and is now the Department of Illinois.  His late wife, Nancy Carder, was also a Past Post 42 Commander and Past 7th District Commander who is still sorely missed by all who knew her.  Mike has accomplished something that no one in the long history of Evanston Post 42 has ever even come close to.  We at Post 42 are deeply proud of Mike Carder and hope that all our Post Family will join us in congratulating him and his incredible achievement.
